Esperanza (1), (2) and (3) have been selected for this touring exhibition of Contemporary Fine Art Miniprints which opens in Leicester this week and tours throughout 2011.
I’ve just completed some new work for a commission from Devon Records Office and Double Elephant Print Workshop in Exeter. This will be exhibited on 04 & 05 September at the XCentre, Exeter. My work was inspired by the fact that there are over a hundred disused stations and more than a dozen lost railway lines in Devon. Like Flanders and Swann in their song Slow Train, I was interested in what ‘passed out of our lives’ following the controversial ‘Beeching Bombshell’ of the 1960s and 70s that cut a third of the rail network in the UK. Numerous rural branch lines were closed and this coincided with a significant growth in road traffic levels.
Printmakers past, present and future feature in this group exhibition at the Zillah Bell Gallery, Thirsk that runs from 02 – 24 October 2009. The Printed Image includes work from: Gertrude Hermes, Norman Ackroyd, Mark Hearld, William Tillyer … and me! There are print demonstrations by Dan Bugg on 10 October (linocut) and by Jason Hicklin on 24 October (etching).
